BMW E39 Rear Bumper Replacement

The wheel arch liners from both sides need unclipping and moving to one side to reveal the inside of the rear bumper. For versions with park distance control, the connector needs to be unplugged and removed for better access as shown in pic 2.

Pic 3 shows the main bolts inside the boot of the E39 which need removal for the rear bumper to come off. When fitting the replacement bumper back on, adjustments will be needed to line it properly so it’s best to keep the bolts slightly loose and only tighten fully once the bumper is nicely lined up.

BMW E39 Front Bumper Replacement

Unclip and remove the wheel arch liners or the wing splashguards from both sides as shown in pic 1. to reveal the side bolts for the front bumper. The bumper is attached at the front by screws hidden under the bumper grille section as shown in pic 2

The expansion rivets need to be levered out to remove the bumper grille section. The front bumper should pull off towards the front once all screws have been taken off. Take extra care to disconnect the wiring, piping etc. for fog lights and headlight washer nozzles before completely pulling the bumper off.
