How to Get the Best Deal on a Car

Over the last decade, it seems that consumer's appetite for new and used cars has increased dramatically. The presence of available credit, the equity in people's homes, the Sunday newspaper advertisements for cars, and the improvements in car technology from both domestic and foreign cars have really propelled forward the consumer motivation. And once consumers have decided on the type of car and how much they want to pay, it's time to start making a decision. When shopping for a car, there are many options to consider. Over the last few years, online purchasing has become quite popular with car shopping sites such as carmax or autobytel. Frequently, these sites will enable you to purchase a car online and have it shipped from another location - if this is the case, a good strategy is to purchase the car from a cheaper location of the country and get a discount that way. In fact, many people frequently purchase inexpensive cars that way. They will check the web or newspapers from cities near them to compare prices - and then even travel a couple hundred miles to purchase and pick up the car they like. In the process, they may end up saving a couple thousand dollars. If you choose to use the internet, they also may pass your inquiry on to a car dealer in your town - and then you have the option to go with that dealer or choose one local to you.

Factors in Considering a Local Car Dealer

If you're shopping for a car online, you'll have the benefit of comparing color, make, accessories, and other options. But if you want to kick the tires and take a test drive, a local car dealer is your best option. If you decide to simply visit a car dealer in your town, you'll want to consider factors including what brands they offer, how much they allow negotiation of the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP), what service options they include for buying a car from their lot, and of course whether you'll get a better deal through this location rather than anywhere else you could get the same car you're looking for. After some research into various car dealers, you may also be interested in how long they've been in business, what their return policy is on cars, whether they'll let you rent a car for a week, and how long the test drive is. Finding a car dealer near is critical to locating the type of new car you're looking for.
